Working the raw plastic

The reel films are worked according to which characteristics the completed product will need to have. There are two macro categories in the production methods: the extrusion and the co-extrusion.

Extrusion

The extrusion process started with the development of the plastic itself. The raw material, given its thermoplastic properties, melts under heat and hardens in low temperatures.

The chosen plastic material, that has originally a granular form, is put into an extruder machinery: once inside, the plastic is heated till it melts. Afterwards, the plastic is pushed through a tiny slot and exits in the form of a thin sheet. Thence the straightening process starts: it will reduce the film even more till it reaches the desired size. The film is then left to cool off and, once it sets again, it will wind up on the reels.
